2023 Low Rider S 117 Slip On's
Cat is in OEM slip-On's. I wanna throw Cobra Haters on but dont wanna buy a $450 tuner for $400 slip ons.
Any advice or experience with these issues would b appreciated. Thanks |
Well you are going to get 3 thoughts on this.
1 - No tune needed the M8 can compensate for minor changes in air and exhaust. 2 - You need to tune if you use an exhaust that does not have the catalytic in them. 3- I did this or that and mine runs fine. I went with S&S Grand Nationals 50-State slip-ons WITH the catalytic as (a) I really like S&S Brand, and (b) did not want to tune nor deal with potential warranty issues. Others have used Cobra and other brands without the cats with no issues as well. |

I think I might just buy Harley's tuner so I don't avoid my warranty and then try some neighbor haters. According to Cobra these are compatible. Since I'm stuck using Harley's tuner if I want to keep my warranty the other option was going with a complete exhaust system. But aside from the statics unless you get into a 2 into 1 since the cats not in the header there's really not going to be a big difference in a full exhaust aside from the diameter the headers.I think I changed my mind after every conversation I have. Lol |

You're 100% accurate. I've talked to 12 different dealers and got 12 different answers. Not people dealers. Service department not clear; parts department not clear; no one seems to give a definitive answer one way or the other.

Lol Here is a sound clip of my bike with the S&S Grand Nationals. Just enough rumble without being to obnoxious. |

I'm probably in the minority, but I like the 2 into 2 on the Low Rider ST. I think it fits the lines of the bike and make the mis-matched saddle bags a little less noticeable. lol

Nice bike!
Why didn't you rev it though? That was like a teaser. Also did you tune it? No Tune. With S&S 50 State (or any other with Cats in the slip-ons, no tune is needed to run. Of course you could tune to optimize, but supposedly per S&S "No tune is needed". S&S also makes a 2 into 1 that they say does not need a tune either. |

S&S also makes a 2 into 1 that they say does not need a tune either. Several HD service managers told me that was the way to go considering this is somewhat of a gray area. Cobra told me the same thing; no tune needed but you could if you wanted to optimize it. |

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hdf...cd54e62e25.jpg If ya want it fairly quiet just put them on. But if ya want a bit more sound these insulated tubes pull straight off the baffles. I even went back in and removed the screen that was tacked on between the baffle and this tube and finally satisfied. Still wasn't as loud as most touring bikes with aftermarket mufflers. Neighbors Haters should not be the name as not too loud AT ALL! Maybe the bigger ones on the big touring are louder, don't know. But beautiful pipes and sound great once adjust |
the M8 is supposedly tuned to around 14.7 /1 AFR, that is rather lean in most regards...
tuning with a Harley tuner can get to around 14.4 / 1...not enough to bother. But if are increasing overall flow, and achieve more air on to the cylinder...you could slightly leaner. is 14.4 enough to kill the motor, NO...but it will run slightly hotter. the M8 is the LS of the to date harley motors....they flow rather well. a stock bike itself will see decent gains from a reputable tuner. i have posted dyno graphs from a 117, tuned by fuel moto running a good exhaust. |
