I had an 82 and had chargng issues and it turned out to be the regulator. I tested things every which way and then an old biker told me, "just change the regulator". That fixed it. Good luck with yours. It's still a cool looking scoot!

My cousins 1978 Superglide...hes not a computer guy so I thought i would show yall his bike

 

Haven't been around much since I bought my '08 SERK Annie. But I'm getting the urge to get the shovel back outside for some old style riding.

Here's what it looked like when I bought in '03. The guy I bought it from bought it in '82 and was the second owner. He had the upper end redone and when he had that done, he bought some of the big hex nuts for the rocker arms plugs. The front one on the rear head wore a hole inside the right tank and it leaked gas; that's when he stopped riding it, '98.



I still have all the original chrome, bags, fairing etc. He had painted the fiberglass with a rattle can to try and match the bike color. Probably didn't look too bad when done, but the age took its toll on the rattle can paint job.

I rode it about 1,100 miles and tore it down to the bare frame. Here's what it looks like now.



I powdercoated the frame, all new paint, all new wiring harness, new everything I could buy for it. I did keep everything removed, albeit not in too good of condition.

So that's it for my '76 FLH. I've got just over 8k miles on it since the restore. I rode it in Sturgis in '06. I had some problems getting up some of the mountains out by Keystone. If I didn't hit the grades at about 65 mph, with the wife on the back, we would slow down and I'd have to downshift. Once downshifted into 3rd, then it was over revving. I guess I just needed more **** in the pistons.

In '08 we took the new SERK out to Sturgis. Now let me tell, there were some BIG differences between the two bikes. With the new SERK and the 110" motor, I could pull all those same mountain highways in 6th gear and still gain speed if wanted.

But the shovel was a lot of fun. You just didn't see many and everyone liked to look it over. That's what it's all about.

 

Here is my 77 that my Dad bought new and finally sold to me in 93. There's never been a wrench into the motor although I'm going to pull the tranny this winter and fix a stubborn seal leak. Believe it or not,,,, she never left an oil spot until about 2 years ago. I rode it to WI for the 90th anniversary reunion in 93 and it still takes me back and forth to work without a hiccup!
