Default Amp Power Wiring

Hey all,

Forgive me if this has all been discussed before, and kindly point me in the right direction if so...

Getting ready to install a JL400/4 in a 17 SGS powering 2 AW6.5s/BT30s in the fairing. The manual for the amp says to use 8AWG power wires under 18ft.

Am I right to assume that if I'm using the full 400 W output, that I'm consuming 400 W and therefore drawing around ~33 amps at max?

My plan was to use 12 AWG Silicone wire from battery to amp which should be safe well above 33 amps.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Id say 90% of the guys use 8g and the rest use 10g. Dont be one of the ones that do not use the battery negative either.

Another question. 2017 Street Glide. Anyone know what side ring terminals I should get for the battery? I'm guessing they're all pretty standard for the bolts into the battery? Probably 3/8"? I don't have my bike apart yet.

Thanks guys.

6mm or 1/4 inch, if you have the stock size fastners on your battery.

Hoping I can piggy back on this thread OP!

I am about to install a second amp in my fairing this weekend; Cerwin B52 is there now and adding a JL 280/4. Currently have 8ga power and ground ran from the battery to the fairing. Do I need to change that to 4ga and use distribution blocks in the fairing with 8ga to the amps? Or do I need to do something else?

Yes use 4awg then split it into a distribution block to two 8AWG's.
