JL MX500/4 clipping

Last fall I Installed a JL MX500/4 bridged with DD AW 6.5 and AT28's I bought from Alex. I tuned it with a 1000hz -5db test tone, 3 bars from max, engine running, set to 28 Volts AC. When I get just over half volume usually the right, but sometimes the left speaker will cut out for a few seconds and then come back on a few more seconds later. Or if I turned it down a notch it will come back on. I assumed the amp was going into protect mode. Pulled the fairing and adjusted to 25 volts. same issue just a little higher up the volume bar. Finally turned all the way down to 20 volts AC and same issue. Again just a little higher up the volume bar.

I have 8 ga. positive and negative to the battery. I am 100% sure AVC is off. I am getting zero distortion. Why is this amp clipping so easily? Technically I should be able to have this set at 31.6 Volts, right?

What else can I check?? Thanks,

That amp bridged is only stable at 4 ohms. How do you have the speakers wired?

a few things can cause clipping....distortion, drop in voltage that can be caused by a bad ground, bad fuse, weak battery (yes even while running), or sometimes a crossed wire. I know some of the TXO's last year had the + - reversed on the color scheme. That could be it too.

The tweeters and mids are in parallel. I will attach a picture.

Battery is brand new this year. 600CCA Throttle X. I have 14 volts steady to the amp when stereo is cranked, idleing. Even revved above 2000 RPM and it stays steady at 14 volts. I will triple check the TXO's for wiring. The dashed line is positive on mine.

20 volts AC at 3/4 volume seems awfully low to be having cut out issues, don't you think?

Going to pull the fairing now and check things. Will post some pics after.
