Accidental rain test of Sony XAV-AX5000

With the forum discount the BT setup is $750, Fathead setup is $500 now. The BT setup would have to be $1000 to make it double. $250 is certainly enough to worry about, just a choice we all have to make.

The Boom and the Sony are in two different leagues. The Boom is T-ball compared to the big league Sony. I have a review/comparison thread somewhere here.
Bottom-line is its not for everyone. Just like there's guys who will never install an aftermarket cam, let alone do serious engine work. Not to mention some guys just can't afford to lose a 500 dollar head unit to rain, that's perfectly understandable.

I don't know why people come on a audio forum and ask why people spend money on Audio??
Have a nice day.

Wash the bike for the first time today since installing the new head unit while I do not spray the inner faring directly I spray the top of the windshield and the tank and a ton of water splashes all on the inner faring but I didn’t notice any water getting under the screen and it fired right up with no issue

Has anybody else had overheating issues? I didn't add any vents to mine when I wrapped it with contact paper, and if I'm riding for hours on end with the volume close to 20 while running GPS, the HU freezes, then shuts off and comes back on. That, and occasionally during really heavy rains or after washing if I'm not careful, the volume will shoot straight to max.
Not sure whether to keep trying fixes on it, or just bite the bullet and get the BT kit. I averages 20k miles a year, so I frequently get caught in storms. I'd rather not spend another $900, but I'm also not going back to the boom

The only reason I'd get rid of a perfectly good Boom Box HU is if it dramatically improves the quality of the stereo. Does the Sony do that? I replaced the stock HK on my 2011, with a Sony (some discontinued HU for $79.99) and the difference in music quality was like night & day. It was definitely much better.
