Help me choose which 6 Channel Amp
#12
thanks for the direction Alex. I'm just trying to figure out how i could wire up 6 4ohm 6.5's and get to 2,3, or 4ohms for the load on the amp. Ideally if i had to start from scratch, I definately would have done this differently!!! But I had to live and learn like everyone else!! If i was willing to give up the bag space for 10's that would be all she wrote! I may even give up on the t/p pods as they don't produce near as much sound as the other positions do.
I wonder if i can wrangle a series parallel wiring scheme that would make it possible to get all 6 on 2 channels, 3 each, without having to buy new 8 ohm speakers, although i do have 2 PA 601.8's in the house so maybe...

You have options:
1. put tweeters in your rear pods and only run four 6.5's
2. put DD VO 6x9 in the lids and bags the tweeters in your tourpack will fill the back
3. ditch the lids and you can fun 6 6.5's on the 5/6 of the 6150 that is 1ohm stable then run just the bags off the 3/4
4. run some speakers in mono
Point is you have some options beyond "what's the right amp" that's too product focused first and not solution focused.

thanks again, now i think that i have a better understanding. the wording of "solution focused" just kind of clicked for me! now that i have some actual "ear time" with a lot of the different products I think that i can come up with a viable solution. when i get it worked out to my satisfaction I'll report back.
I can say thanks enough for all the input that you guys provide!!

That right there is a good post. Far to many folks just diving in on product and not at all building a road map for their journey. Buying a 6 channel amp does not always mean ur gonna have all these channels at your disposal cause by the time u get stuck bridging 4 of them ur now down to a 3 channel amp, thus the right 4 channel amp might have been far superior for ur intended goals.
