I upgraded to a Harman Kardon radio in my 05 Electra Glide. If I understand correctly the 05 radio ran 4 ohm speakers and the Harman Kardon runs 2 ohm speakers...
So I need to either replace the speakers to 2 ohm or add an amplifier with 4 ohm output correct?
Not wanting to spend a lot of money to continue this upgrade but a pair of speakers can easily set me back a hundred. Anyone have recommendations on an amp?
Looks as if either way I am spending more money.

 

What speakers are you using now?

 

I have a pair of Hog Tunes in there. I did not see any ohm rating on them. There was the older style radio in the bike.

 

If you radio is 2ohm, then you can run any ohm speaker out there except 1ohm. You can always go higher in ohms but never lower than the rating of the radio. If you add an amp then everything defers to the amps ratings and not the radio.

 

I did get the outer Fairing off. I have 5.75 ohms Hog Tune speakers model#0914.

 

Not going to hurt a thing to run them but they probably won't get very loud.

 

That is what I noticed. I bought an 06 EGC new off the floor and the tunes seemed a bit louder than what I have now (05 EGC with HK radio installed). Iron Cross told me I should have changed the speakers. Now if I am going to spend the money I want to make sure I will be getting the "loud" with them.
One thing I did notice currently the volume seems to drop down a bit when I release the volume control. I cranked it up all the way on one tune and the volume seemed to fall off just a bit as soon as I released the button.
Iron Cross just went thru the radio so I known it should be working correctly.
