Default Trimming PRV 6MR500-NDY for Lowers

Ok, got my PRV's in and getting ready to tackle installing them into the lower pods this evening. What is the easiest way to trim these down without damaging the speaker? I know they need to be taped up front and back so that no metal gets into the speaker and such.... but is using a bench grinder/angle grinder the best way to go? Or can you use some tin snips to get the bulk of the material off, then smooth out with the grinder as kind of a finishing touch?

I cut the lugs off with a jigsaw, very slowly. Then used a bench grinder to finish them. Take your time or the speaker will get hot. Don’t let it intimidate you.....just be patient.

Well, I elected to go with an angle grinder with a 36 grit flappy disc..... spent about an hour on one speaker and still have a bit to go before I get it down to fit. I worked on one corner at a time, took a bit off till the frame got warm then let it sit for 5 minutes or so to cool, then right back at it. I may be going too slow, but I'm not taking any chances. At this pace though..... probably gonna take me 4 hours total to get both speakers done, lol.

most of the heat comes when the sanding discs get clogged with the aluminum, get a few extra discs and change them out when they clog

That's why I chose to go with the Flappy Disc instead of the standard grinding disc..... figured it would be better than a solid stone disc and clog up less.

Come to think of it, I went to a flap disc after trying the bench grinder. Good call!

I have the Beymas and they have the same issue with the lugs, I used a jig saw to cut off the majority and an bench grinder to get the last bit. Tip though for those that attempt this. Tape the SHIX out of them so nothing can get into the speaker or voice coil!
