Default 09 Ultra Classic speaker upgrade?

Hi All,

I'm looking to upgrade the the speakers (front and back) on my 09 Ultra. I'll still be using the stock head unit. Looking for better speakers (marine grade) that would give me a little better sound over stock speakers. I don't want to put an Amp in right now. I have other projects going on right now and don't have the funds for a whole sound upgrade at this time.

Thanks
Hickey

The problem is most decent speakers are going to REQUIRE an amp to work properly. I have a set of Boom upgrade speakers for that bike and I only used them for a couple of months because they weren't much better than stock. Kicker makes a set of 2 ohm marine speakers but I don't know for sure if they will fit. The grills look a little cumbersome. Maybe another user has tried them:

I understand your desire to not get into an amp. I was of the same mindset when I first got my 2010 but there really is no way around it. You are just spinning your wheels doing anything without at least a small basic amp.

If you are on a tight budget maybe a SoundStream PN4.520D which can be had for about $100. A lot of folks will recommend the PN4.1000d but it is huge and can be a tough install for a novice. Also if you just want a little better than stock 100Wx4 should do you fine. I have also heard good things about the Cerwin Vega B54 amp. I think the B54 may be an easier install but not quite as powerful. That way you could go for some Polk MM652 marine grade 6.5" speakers and a set of Metra adapter rings for your fairing. The Polks should run you about $100 a set or so. That would get you going for less than $400. Keep in mind though the cheaper amps will usually reduce your FM reception with that stock head unit though. If FM is important to you then a more expensive amp will be required. You also may need a line output converter like a PAC LP3-4 or something similar.

There are many more configs that will work with your situation this was just one I had on top of my head. Keep asking questions if you need to, the folks here have a lot of experience to share.

Thanks for the help. I'm in the middle of doing a Stage 3 upgrade on the motor but was hoping to maybe upgrade the sound system a little till next year.

Thanks again

Hickey
