Getting 8's and 6x9's to play well together
I was wondering if any of the pro's and experienced sled audio guys out there have any advice on getting an 8 in the bag and 6x9 in the lid to not fight each other. I am currently running a Beyma 8g40-4 and dd vo 69 in each bag and lid. They are getting about 200w from a non filtered BT4250 controlled by a DSR-1. I have tried running them at the same crossover point, different watts, and the lids out of phase. The only thing that has kinda made a noticeable difference is crossing the 6x9 stupid hi into the 200hz range. I am not opposed to changing out the 8 in as it is loud and sounds great but doesn't play as low as I thought it would especially at higher watts. I would like to keep the 6x9 but could go to sealed 6.5 if necessary. Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You could try a foam baffle around the 6x9's. I did that with some 10's in the bag which helped but wasn't perfect. You could also seal the lid if you are a little creative with an ABS sheet.

I wonder if some fiberglass resin soaked in one of those baffles would make it better?

run the 8's out of phase with the 6x9's and work on the tune.
m i did this with vo 6x9's and PRV 8's the ft's and it worked out ok. |

Sure. The SBD lids do have a lot of pinholes in them, especially around the edges. I had to grind one edge quite a bit before I got all the visible ones removed.

Is the lid sealed? How did that change the sound of the lid speaker? And what’s in the lid?
|
Yes the lid is sealed with a removable cover on the bottom. The lid will have PRV 8MR500's with DD Vo's. As far as sound, I haven't finished getting it all together yet. Trying to run a business and working on custom paint and audio on bikes in my spare time doesn't leave much to work on my own stuff.

Is anyone running sealed 6.5's? Is there maybe another 8 that plays better in the small space of a bag?

PRV 8MB600FT worked very well for me, some people are liking the Yellow Basket Ground Zero's also.
