Default Tuning

Thanks for the advice about the speakers being in phase. One of them was out. You're right, big difference. I adjusted the gains up as well, as best I could anyway. I did it with the bike running inside my garage, at dusk. Since I live in a neighborhood with lots of houses and a healthy HOA I have to be careful about blasting Rush and MJ's PYT for too long when all the young families around me are putting kids to bed.

I still think maybe I don't have something right. I'm using the settings on the head unit to set the crossovers. I read a post several weeks ago posted some time ago by Gannicus recommending starting point settings on the Sony MEX-70BT. The post mentioned the slope and individual settings on the head unit. I realize that those settings will affect both the front and rear channels, so the 6.5s and the 6x9s. I suspect the slope setting might be the reason they aren't sounding great.

With the HU having only one crossover, I'd set the crossovers on the amp for the front and the rear. Set the crossover on the HU @ 70 with slope 1 and dial the crossovers in on the amp to finish them out.

SBates08- thanks fo the advice. The tuner allows only one HPF setting for both the front and rear channels..I previously had this set to 100 and the slope set at -1. That was set using the info I found on here from Gannicus based on the fairing speakers and lowers.

I adjusted that tonight to HPF 80 and slope.at -1. It does sound a little.better.

Here is what confuses me though - the above settings and adjustments were done through the head unit itself. But the mobile app let's you set crossovers for each speaker individually. Sorry I meant to screenshot that but didn't get around to it. The app allows for two front and two rear speakers, but there is no slope.setting, at least not that I can find. In the app I have the fronts set at 100 and the rears at 82. Not sure how that works in conjunction with the HPF and slope settings using the head unit controls.

I did adjust the gain up again some.for both front and rear. It's definitely better than it was.

Paul can you verify how much actual power you're sending the VO's using a multimeter and a 1000Hz test tone? Those speakers should be ripping at 180W. Don't worry about the slope of a crossover until you know you're delivering the proper power to the speaker. If you aren't sure how to calculate this send me a message and I'll happily walk you through it.

Interested. Is it because at 1000hz you know the inductance and then can calculate the watts once you have the voltage?
