After reading many of these threads my friend pulled the trigger on a new system for his 2015 SGS. He asked me to assist him in installing it.

System:
Sony XAV-AX5000
Stinger 700 x 4
4 Mmats 601 cx
Hog Tunes speaker grills

Speakers are wired up 1 per channel as recommended by the forum members.

The problem: When ever we turn the ignition on we immediately hear a faint pulse/popping noise from the speakers. Once the Sony HU is up and running and the music starts to play it immediately begins to cut out at the same rate of the faint pulse/pop we heard when the ignition was first turned on. If you turn the ignition off, the faint pulse/popping last for a few seconds and then stops.

What we know: Not a damn thing!

What we tried:
1. Tried each speaker independently. Did not help.
2. Checked ground with multimeter and its just fine.
3. Checked volts at the battery and at the amp to look for voltage drop. It also seem to be fine.
4. Unplugged RCA Cables from HU to amp. Speakers still make the faint pulse/popping sound. This leaves me to believe its in the amp.

Amp Settings:
1. Front and Rear set to high pass.
2. Sensitivity set to minimum.
3. Frequency set to middle setting.

So far my thoughts on diagnosis:
1. Bad amp. How would I know this or how could i check it?
2. Cheap 4 gauge power wire. Although the amp is reading appropriate volts.

My Questions:
1. Anyone ever heard of anything like this?
2. Any suggestions on what to try next to diagnose the problem?

Are you grounded directly to the battery? Are you running your remote right from the Sony?

 

Sony is grounded to the Bolt that holds the Sony onto the amp tray. When tested with the multimeter to check for continuity, the ohms were 000.0. Same as engine so we assumed this was a good ground.

The remote wire comes directly out of the Sony HU and into the Stinger amp.

 

Is the amp grounded to the battery?

 

I said the wrong thing.

Amp is grounded to the amp tray bolt. Not the Sony.

 

The first thing I would try is to run a ground back to the negative terminal of the battery.

 

Put your ground for the amp on the battery.

 

Ok. We will give that a try right now.

 

along with running the ground to the battery, if i'm reading your first post right it seems you need to readjust your crossover frequency and gain/sensitivity.

 

Just ran a 4 gauge ground wire from the amp to the negative terminal on the battery.

Music still drops out about every 2 seconds. Its like a record skipping. Tried radio, Sirius and BT all with the same result.

With the Sony HU RCA's unplugged from the amp, the speakers still make a very faint pulse/pop sound every 2 seconds.
