Default Question about setting gains

I’m setting the gains on a new SD 800.4. I did it with the HP filter on. Does that matter? Thanks

You want to set your gains in the configuration of how you are going to run the setup. If you don’t have a dd1 then use a voltage meter or fine someone who has a dd1. You can do it the old way by ear also but can leave some on the table. Just make sure to set it at your max volume and don’t go above it when riding.

I’ll take that to mean that it doesn’t matter if the HP filter is on. I don’t have any Steve Meade equipment, although I have a handheld o-scope coming tomorrow. I hope the cheap Chinese scopes work as they should.

I put in the SD amp to replace the venerable stinger SPX 700 with two new yellow baskets in the fairing and Mmats coax in the lowers. All brand new. I read that the Stinger didn’t have enough power for the yellow baskets. Maybe I need a better tune but it seems like the Stinger sounds better in my set up.
It seemed like the lower frequencies dropped quite a bit. Is this the reason people are saying to use a DSP with the SD amps? Thanks

You really haven't changed that much as far as power goes. That only puts out 130 watts per channel at 4ohms.
Which 800.4?

The 4 Ohm one. Should I use both amps? Seems like too much power if I do that. What if I back the gain off a bit?

What would you do if you had these two amps and speakers? I’ve read this forum for months and still can’t seem to get out of my own way. Thanks for you help.

800.4 EvoX and the Stinger. I found a local shop to have the Rockford flash done next week. Probably going to get a dsp also.

Has anyone else compared the Stinger 700 to the 800.4 EvoX amp? Seems like a logical comparison. Both are recommended as the simple setup. Without a dsp the Stinger seems to sound better with my setup. I know cshocker did tell me I need a dsp with the EvoX amp.
