I installed the Rockford Fosgate stage 3 kit of my '11 Street Glide and it sounds great! After about a month, I had the bike turn on, listening to the stereo, key on engine off for about 5 minutes while getting things together to take her out for a spin. I started the engine (good cranking speed, so battery was not excessively low on charge) the head unit restarted itself. From that moment on, I lost handlebar controls. I looked into seeing what I can do to diagnose what failed or if there is some sort of reset or reinstall the firmware or what. Turns out there is a tech support website where you give your issue and they are supposed to respond. Well, went through that step and no response. Was wondering if this is something someone else has had to deal with and if it's fixable. My research so far has found that the head units are non-repairable so if it's comes to being something like a burned out diode or whatever, the answer is to replace the head unit. Seems a bit of a harsh pill to swallow at about $650 each time something pops. I read through the entirety of the owner's manual and found no warning about having the stereo turned on while cranking the engine. Any insights would be much appreciated.
Installed the same radio on my wife’s bike, nothing like that happened to hers. Had just the key on setting the gains on the amp and just messing around for an hour, no problem. Try calling them on Monday, had a setting problem that it didn’t keep the proper time. I called them and someone picked the phone and talked to a tech, no call back or waiting. Could also be just bad timing and the switch just went bad.
I have a Rockford Fosgate PMX-HD9813 on my 2011 Ultra and I had an issue where the head unit would reboot or it would power off and power back on. This happened on both the FM audio setting and the MP3 setting. This occurred with the volume both set high and medium. It would happen while riding on smooth roads so I didn't think it was a vibration issue. Figured out what the problem was. Turns out my Ignition Switch Housing (71572-06) was defective. My guess is this part just wears out over time. Maybe you can clean the contacts on yours. I didn't bother trying to clean it and just replaced it. No problems since replacing it.

Was this happening to you while you were riding? I just installed this same head unit as part of the Stage 3 package from RF and on a 20 mile test drive after the install the head unit powered off 3 separate times on me. It would go dark, and then boot back up and operate normally. Trying to figure out if it's a power issue, head unit issue, or now I'm thinking it could be something with the Ignition Switch Housing like you mention. If it's power related, wouldn't the entire bike experience the same issue?
UsefulNut I'll throw out something I've had to do a time or two regarding my head unit functionality.
I have a Metra bluetooth unit connected to my stock HK head unit along with an iPod module. Every once in a while the Bluetooth module will either disappear from a source selection or won't pair. I just remove the clutch side fuse box cover and pull the large main fuse for about five seconds and plug it back in. This seems to reset whatever went wrong and everything starts working fine.
Maybe try that and see if your RF unit starts acting better?

Yes, it happened while riding. Over 10,000 miles since I've changed the ignition switch housing and the problem has never happened again!
Unrelated:
Now, I'm having an issue with my Garmin 595 GPS unit. This unit seems to occasionally power-off and back-on. I recently sprayed some CRC Quick Dry Contact Cleaner on the Pogo pins on the GPS mount. That issue now seems to be fixed, but I really need to verify it on a couple hundred mile ride. The MP3 player on the GPS also seems to shutdown occasionally. I'll try to do a better job on cleaning the MP3 specific Pogo Pins or maybe there is an issue with my GPS mount. Further testing is required.
If it's power related, wouldn't the entire bike experience the same issue?
Sorry, missed this question.
In my case it only effected the radio. My Garmin 595 GPS never had an issue or turned off. Bike seemed to run fine. I'm guessing the intermittent high contact resistance only caused issues with the Rockford-Fosgate PMX-HD9813 head unit. Never had the issue occur again after I changed the switch. Switches do wear out. I've had to replace light switched in my home due to them wearing out.
My motorcycle had 145,535 miles on it when I replaced the switch.

What was Rockford's answer to your clock issue? Mine keeps going back like an hour and 10 minutes. Sometimes 10 seconds after setting, sometimes 10 minutes.

Unfortunately I dont remember what the fix was, havent had the problem since then. Sorry

How did you go about replacing the part? I just received a new one from eBay today, but all the YouTube videos I have found so far just talk about replacing the ignition switch, and not this entire part. Thanks.
