MP3's Only? Really?

I think I know the answer, and I'm not going to like it. So, the HK unit will only read MP3's? No other compressed formats, like . . . . say AAC?! Quite some time ago I bit the bullet and now have everything in AAC (was MP3). Even the cheapest CD/DVD players will read a handful of formats. I'm right on this one, huh? Ugh!

So, given I have 5K+ songs in AAC, do you all have some suggestions? I know I can convert AAC to MP3, but in iTunes I think it creates a duplicate of the AAC so you end up with both items in your library. Any other ideas . . . . like anything that will convert while writing to the CD?

Yes, I know I can pick up the $500 gizmo from HD, and I can use the AUX input. Just looking to use the CD player if I can.

Thanks for any feedback!

Well, including you, I now know a total of 1 person using AAC. Everyone buys MP3 players - go into a store and ask for an AAC player....:icon_laugh:

Sorry, I'm not much help.

Really? Most people go to a store to buy an Ipod, which is an AAC player, along with all the other formats. Anyone who buys their music from Itunes buys in AAC format. That being said, I either rip my own CD's or buy through Amazon as they gave up DRM encoding much before Apple did.

As for the OP's question, I don't know of any way, other than using a lone standing program to convert your AAC's to MP3 before writing them to CD. Sorry.

nothing I have bought from Amazon will play on my Harley head unit when burned as an mp3 data disk. Only plays when burned as a music cd. I gave up the converting business. Bought a $50 ipod shuffle (newest generation) and put it all on that, with playlists. I hate Apple, but it's just easier this way.

Here you go, the directions on how you can make an mp3 disk that will play on the HK...

Try WinAmp.

On my version of iTunes, I make a playlist, select burn to cd, and then when the burn disk dialog box opens, iTunes lets you click on mp3. iTunes then does the conversion while it is burning the disk.

Older versions of iTunes required you to set this option in the preferences.

It doesn't make an extra copy of the song in the library if yuo do it this way.

in iTunes, go to edit, preferences. select import settings
set import using: to MP3
set setting: to higher quality 192
select ok
now go back to your library, press CTRL+A to select all
then right click somewhere in that highlighted range and tell it to create MP3 version.
go back and remove all the AAC files if you want.
