Scott Ezzell's Bracket...question
 

Well I am seriously considering mounting two RF amps. My wife thinks I'm nuts. I have searched through the forums for pictures of the bracket that Scott makes and have seen it mounted on the bike. It's hard to tell if it would work with two RF amps mounted side by side. I have a couple of questions for those that have used the bracket.

Is the bracket deep enough to mount 2 amps side by side? The RF amp mounts would then be front to back on the bike as opposed to a single amp mounted sideways. It would have to be deep enough to drill into the bracket to secure the amps. The stock bracket attached to the top of the radio that holds the CB module would have to be drilled out obviously. It's location makes me wonder if Scotts bracket goes back far enough.

From the pictures I've seen, it looks like the bracket is held in place by two screws on back of the radio as well as being sandwiched between the radio and fairing brackets. Does it require the bracket on top of the HK radio that would ultimately be drilled out?

We talked on the phone, but thought to answer your questions here as well.

1. Yes, the bracket on the top of the HK must be removed. Easy to do with a Dremel tool.

2. Yes, the Ezzell bracket has plenty of depth for the amps; it actually uses the HK bracket in a normal installation. With the bracket removed the amps may hang some over the back of the bracket, but with industrial Velcro the amps are very secure.

3. In addition to removing material from the speedo and tach mounting cups to provide additional needed depth, some non-structural material must also be removed from the gauges. Again, easy to do with patience.

What is it that you are trying to accomplish ?? What equipment are you installing ?? Head unit/ amps/ speakers ??

I am going to use two PBR300X2 amps, 4 Polk MM651 in the front fairing and rear pods. I'm keep the stock HK head unit.

I used Scott's amp with an aftermarket Sony. It was a PIA to get it all to fit. I made it work, but had to dremel and drill the bracket and dremel the gauge housing.

Scott's bracket wasn't designed to mount two RF amps. What did you do the bracket.

I ask because I installed two RF amps on my HK head unit using Scotts bracket and know about the work involved with the speedo and tach cups, and would like to know what you are complaining about.

Not complaining at all. I knew when I bought it that it wasnt made for 2 amps or even an aftermarket head unit. Scott actually refunded my money after buying it which he didn't have to do. I knew I was a tester. I am still happy with the bracket, but there was a lot of cutting to get it to mount. The biggest PIA for me was having to take the fairing off each time becasue I thought it would fit but it need more cutting

So what did you Dremel and drill on Scott's bracket? The info may help the next guy.

yeah there's several folks here looking to do the same thing with 2 X2 amps mounted side by side so any pics and words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated PistonPuller. I still (after much searching and frustration) think that what TIF2 did with his and HPM's installs is remarkable and sets the bar for other installs...

Unfortunately I dont have any other pics. Its been over a year since I did the install. I remember having to drill the top of the bracket in order to get them both bolted on. The side mounts also had to be elongated a little more to make them slide all the way back. Like I said the biggest PIA for me was thinking I had enough room until trying to put the fairing back on. I am told the install of 2 amps is not too bad when using the stock head unit. Even after doing the insatll I would still buy the bracket as it was the best one made at the time. But like its been said it was not made for 2 amps, but it can work with modification
