Question Random Q of the day. 6.5" subs?

So - someone's "kicker" thread got me thinking. I've seen a couple 6.5" "subs" out there. Considering adding the ebay pods from June's upholstery (good price and looks solid). Adding a quick detach power and speaker wire shouldn't be too hard. Powering 2 6.5" subs (on HU's 3rd RCA set - sub channel), with an in-tourpack amp?

Just kicking the idea around. Not sure if i will need a sub(s) after getting the 6x9's wired in, but might be interesting!

2 x 6.5's should be moving some surface area (at least equal to a 10-12" sub right?).

Definitely more for slower speed cruising than highway.

Anyone done this? One downside is i rarely ride w/ the tourpack (mostly just when 2up and distance). Has quick detach now, so not sure if the wiring will be a PITA or not.

Appreciate input on this idea.

Thx!

What about yaffes lids that have 2-6.5 holes... 1 set of "Polk" mm651's and 1 set of 6.5 subs "insert brand here"? Or are you set on 6x9's

Thanks Drew. I have the Cycle Sounds 6x9 lids already. At shop being painted now and halfway wired (bike apart).

And since i ride most of the time w/o tourpack. Just thinking out loud of adding the 6.5's as true subs in the pods.

Thx!

Right sell me the 6x9 lids..... And then pick up e yaffe's.....

I'm sure it could be done the way you described. Are you running a 4 channel in the fairing?

You'll get more out of the 6X9's than the subs..........One of the gang took out his 4 Pioneers, and put 4 subs in.....................didn't sound as good as the Pioneers. Switched them back.

I was all set to put subs in too. Always looking for the 'best' set-up. If I find something better than the 6X9 Pioneers, I'll let you know, but don't hold your breath. Been looking for 4 years !

LOL - yeah no.

CS Lids are here to stay my friend! I'm sure they are going to give me some great fill and additional volume at lower speeds (maybe higher too).

Yes - i have the BT4180 4ch powering the BT7P1 Titan II 7.1's in the fairing and BT479's in the lids (when finished). At paint now so waiting on pin stripe guy to finish it up in the next week or two (fingers crossed). Itching to ride the new bike w/ new stereo. Buell 25R is the current ride and will be the weekend canyon carver, w/ this for 2 up and some commuting.

The tourpack sub is interesting, but don't want to lose the usable space. That's why i thought some good quality 6.5" subs (two) in the pods might give me some of that real low end hit. Obviously not as much as a dedicated sub in a ported box (like that JL 8"). All about compromise.

I will definitely hold off until i'm done w/ current install. If i want to add more low end punch, i'll look at adding (not replacing 6x9's or adding more 6x9's) these 6.5'ers!

Thx!
