Speaker Problem - Sometimes it Works...Sometimes it Doesn't
I don't know much about audio, but I know some of you know more than a lot of people do about it. Hopefully, you can help. First, the bike is a 2012 CVO SG, so it has a rear amp and saddlebag speakers. The problem is with the left bag speaker. Like the title says, there are times that it doesn't work. When that happens, it has a low humming or buzzing sound. The front speakers work fine. The right bag speaker works fine. The speaker itself is not the problem. I hooked up a different speaker when it was doing it and it did the same thing. Here are my guesses. It's not the head unit or plugs for the HU, unless there is a single pin for the left rear speaker (I don't know if there is). I checked the connections for the speaker itself, where the wires go into the left bag and the plug for the rear amp. I don't see anything that looks like it could be the problem. My guess is that it is the rear amp. But it is just a guess. From the info provided, can anybody give me a good idea of what the problem probably is? Thanks.

tpb857.. take a look at the harness for the rear amp and also at the back of the headunit. There certainly is a set (2) of wires going from the amp to the speaker itself and there will be a set (2) wires going from the head unit to the amp for signal.

Do you know the colors for the two wires for the left saddlebag speaker that would be in the harness for the back of the head unit. If it isn't the amp, I bet that is where the problem is. Thanks for your help.

I can still use some help with this. I check the connections for the left saddlebag speaker from the head unit back to the speaker itself. They all seemed good. Went for a pretty good ride on Sunday. When I left, the speaker was working fine. When I got back, there was just some faint popping coming out of the speaker. Does that leave just the head unit and the amp as the most likely problems? If the rear amp was bad, could that cause just one speaker to do that at times? Is there any way to check the head unit and amp? Sorry for all the questions, but this problem is starting to bug me.

the only way to tell for sure where your issue lies is by
1.) swapping speakers around to see if the problem moves and 2.) removing the amp out of the equation and have the speakers connected directly to the head unit. |

I was just thinking about your second suggestion, but I'm not quite sure how to do it. I was going to cut the left rear speaker wires before the amp and then wire directly to the left speaker (I was going to leave the right side completely alone since I am having no problems with it). Is this the way to do it or is there a better way? Sorry if it sounds like I don't know too much about this...but I don't. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it. |
that is exactly what I'd do tpb857
