Been to Sturgis about 15-16 times and the rally about a dozen times. If crowds aren't your thing, go the week before the rally. Vendors are setting up if you want merchandise, roads are groomed and lineups are minimal.

I also recommend staying around Keystone if you like things a little quieter. The Spokane Creek campground has an excellent twisty road going to it and it has cabins for rent in addition to campsites.

Dude.....if you want to go experience sturgis, you need to do it. As I mentioned earlier before, I've gone solo several times and always had a great time. And with this internet thing these days, you can find all the info you need regarding where to go.

I wouldn't let going solo stop me.

I'm not sure if any of my group is going this year. We are meeting either later this week or early next to decide. If we go, I'll drop you a line.

Been several (non-rally) times to the hills. Absolutely stunning scenery and roads.
Went last year for 1st time at rally. Went solo, loved it. Answerable to no one but me.
No whining,, no waiting, no indecisive riding buddies.
There are always groups travelling in the same direction. if I was lonely id just tag along till I was done.
Went 2 days prior to the official start and stayed 2 days in. Rally is "on" at least a week before as far as vendors and attractions but not so congested. could easily get out and enjoy the rides. during the rally notso easy or safe.
stayed at Days End campground. Easy walk to Sturgis Main. Ride during the day, park and walk into town at night.
very well run campground and great staff.
95% sure im going again this year and will go early again. and stay maybe 3 days...that'll be enough of the Zoo!
BB you have a long trip from Niagara and I get the apprehension but I wouldn't hesitate to go it solo.
Lifes short, leave no regrets.
If we could time it Id gladly ride the west leg with you...or until we get on each others nerves.....
Do it ,you wont be sorry !

The Chip is getting a pretty good lineup of acts I haven't seen before. It's tempting!
