At one time it was on my bucket list but not anymore. After hearing horror stories from friends that have made the trek I have re-considered.
A close friend of mine booked a campsite almost a year in advance only to find out when they got there it had been given away to someone that got there ahead of them. They ended up in what they call an overflow area. Also, when it rained there, which is everyday, they could not even get to their site due to a mud hill they would have to climb with the bike! And as you can guess his bike was absolutely covered in mud. Sounds like fun huh? I think not!
Have been advised by many if you want to go do it other then the Sturgis bike week. Just my two cents. Good luck if you go and safe riding!
Cheers, Terry

Yep you hear good and bad stories but if I don't go next year I never will. I'm 68 now and want to try it before I get to be a 'geezer' ! Thanks for the advice though...b.

17 will be an "off" year, so it probably won't be quite as busy as the "anniversary" years (the ones ending in 5 or 0). That said, it will still be crowded, no doubt and it will probably rain during the rally at some point, as it always does. But I always have a great time, and for me its always worth it. There are several campgrounds that will have space. Some are party campgrounds, some bring in big concerts, some are quiet. Just know what you are looking for in the sturgis experience and pic the spot that best suits your needs and wants.

Why not go a month before "Sturgis Week"?
Riding the Black Hills is phenomenal, accommodation easier to find, lineups at the Broken Spoke non existent, but still a fair amount of bikes making their way in and out.
Hill City is the place to stay

Hey beanoboy you are very far from a geezer. I rode to Milwaukee for the 110th with an 78 year old geezer. And yes he rode all the way there and back!
He was miserable but we humoured him lol
Keep riding and safely for the trip to Sturgis!
Cheers,Terry

Even the week before the rally is calmer somewhat, but you still get some of the "rally" experience without fighting as big a crowds.
