Default hard to start

over the last year my bike gets harder to start all the time when it is cold. longer I leave it between starts the harder it gets. even with a top end battery it wont roll over fast enough to catch. I have to keep rolling it over with the charger on it on the boost setting and even then im looking at 10 mins of off/on starter engage to finally get it going. would almost think it was full of grease instead of oil. using 20/50 oil. once it is warm it runs and starts like a dream.

Could be as simple as your major electrical connections are dirty or corroded, so the starter isn't getting full power when you press the button. Remove and clean them, especially the other end of the ground cable, apply dialectic grease.

thanks for the reply grbrown. bike is in storage now but will check all the connections first thing in the spring. one other thing I didn't mention was when starting it, when it would catch there would be a kickback in the motor that just about made you sick. I,ll do a load test too. I put a new battery in it about 5 months ago but who knows

Is this a bike w/oil bag (above tranny) or TC w/oil pan?Could be making it's way past pump and filling crankcase if older bike.Do you have a late model petcock that only opens when vacuum is applied-or a simple off/on?Could be dumping gas in cylinder. If carbed, float could be stuck-dumping gas in cylinder........check your oil, pull sparkplugs and see if gas smell present in cylinders.Do a load check on the battery.
