Default Help with petcock truobles please

So I had a leak and replaced the fuel line to the carb from the petcock. I had to syphon the gas out of the tank because it would not come out of the pet **** in 'ON' or "reserve'. I took the tank off and could not blow through it either.
Is this normal? I am thinking the petcock should flow gas on it's own, Do I have a blockage, and can you disassemble the petcocks and clean 'em out?

Bike will not start now, so I guess that is my answer?

There is a nipple on the petcock that should have a hose going to the carb./intake.Vacuum needs to be applied in order for gas to flow.Think of it like this-gas will not flow unless the engine is running (creating vacuum). So you'll need a hand operated vacuum pump to create vacuum if you want to drain the gas.

Default Installing a new petcock

Might be slightly off topic, but when installing a new petcock would you recommend using a teflon tape as a thread sealer?

Not needed, it's not under pressure. There's a rubber gasket.
