Default Choke wont stay open...

I have a 97 FLSTC and no matter what I do, the choke will not stay open. When I first try starting the bike I pull the choke out to about 1/2, as soon as I let it go, it slides back to closed. The only way I can keep it open until the bike warms up enough not to need it is to hold it open.

Any thoughts on this?

PS: So far as I know, it is all stock.

I have the same problem. I've replaced the cable. It worked for a week then stop. I just deal with it.

On the back side of the choke cable mount is a plastic friction nut. Gently, ever so gently, tighten it until you get the desired results. It is plastic, did I say gently adjust it?

lowrider,

I have had it a HDS so I might end up having to just deal with it too.

Lakerrat,

Thanks, I'll see if that works.

Why does everyone wait until warmed up?? Warming the bike up to touch I guess is ok but warming up to operating temp. These are not proper procedure. Your only supposed to idle the bike for like 30 seconds then ride off adjusting the enricher as you go.

Letting an engine warm up ensures complete and proper oil circulation and; therefore, a complete and fully lubricated system.

"Proper procedure" as defined by HD? Personally, I don't worry too much about what a manufacturer tells me - I prefer to do what I have done for over 35 years, without an issue, when it comes to warming an engine before driving off.
