squeaking?
 

ok so long story short: I snapped an exhaust stud and after removing the head and getting it drilled out, I reassembled with new gaskets and what not, but upon re assembly I had a hose hanging from my carb and cannot for the life of me remember where it goes (it may just be for overflow?) and now when I am starting my bike and when it begins to idle there is a fairly loud squeaking noise. so I am hoping that it is not a head gasket leak but maybe something to do with that hose? anybody ever have this problem before? OH its a 2005 Sportster 1200C also maybe could it be an intake leak? the intake manifold gave me alittle bit of trouble getting it into place, hw would I go about checking? also I only have a manual for a 2010 sporty which is fuel injected so there's nothing about carbs, I know I need to get one for '05

Not 100% sure about your model, but later HDs have a vacuum operated petcock, (the 1 breakdown on my Twinkie besides cam tensioners) and I'm thinking you didn't hook the hose baxk up.
That said, the carb should get no gas without it. Doesn't mean it works, tho.
I gutted mine to work like an oldschool petcock about 50k ago.

It must be hooked up to the petcock because its getting gas, heres a quick video of me firing it up you can hear it really well in the begining

Wow, thats a sharp squeal - if I didn't know about your carb work, I'd think it was a starter problem; sounds more like metal on metal than a vacuum induced leak. Shoot some wd40 in the hose end with it running; if the motor changes, it's the hose/connection. If not, shoot around the intake gaskets to tind any leaks.

The more I I look at it I believe the hose is just a breather, when I get home from work my plan was to spray some starter fluid arpund the intake and listen for it to idle up, ill post my finding later tonight or tomorrow! Wish me luck!! (:

Hose to the VOES? Plug the hose for a few seconds to see if the noise goes away...YD
