Default Re-jet (CA model)

The stock was a 42 and a 185. I went up to a 45 and 195 and it runs like **** (besides idle). I have 2 turns out from seated on the mixture screw. I adjusted idle properly an it idles perfect (no black smoke). As soon as I get on the throttle any bit it starts spitting black smoke and dies. I understand this is too much fuel. What should be my next course of action?

You are running Stage 1 right? I really don't know what the difference is with the Ca carb and the others but I wouldn't think it is much.

If it was good with the 185, and then not with the 195, I would start by dropping a washer from the needle. If it is still too rich, drop the main jet down to a 190...and get the Sporty needle jet.
My old SG came with some CV stuff a PO installed (emulsifier tube, 46 idle, 185 main, and needle) I never could get it to run just right so I went to stock HD parts 48/195 jet combo with the 27094-88 needle jet and two washers. Was way too rich at idle and gas mileage really sucked so I went back to the 46 jet and dropped the main to a 190. Much better!

Two things come to mind. You say it idles good but as soon as you give it throttle it runs like crap. You are not immediately on the main jet so I suggest you verify the following.

I would check that you didn't install the needle guide upside down ( the silver tube with a collar that sits under the main jet)

And that you didn't pinch or damage the vacuum diaphragm.

I have heard that the needle guide can be installed upside down but I have never been able to intentionally do it on a CV-40 or CV-44...must be something that happens when you are not looking.
