Default Don't think it is the float?!

Yesterday continued today 98 fxdwg
I rebuilt carb, but now the gas just runs out the bowl drain.
I removed the bowl and poured a little gas in and sure enough it all just runs out the drain eventhough the screw that is supposed to stop that is tight. I completely rent the drain to clean an blow compressed air through. Also replace it ring on the drain screw.
thoughts?

Any ideas?

Is the rubber O-ring on the drain screw the correct size? Is there dirt in the seat where the rubber ring/screw goes into?

There is the bowl drain and there is the overflow drain. Which one is your problem? The bowl drain is the lowest screw on the bowl at the bottom. The overflow drain is connected to the brass tube that sticks up when looking at the inside of the bowl.

The overflow will drain gas if your float needle is not seating correctly. YD

I matched the o ring. I cleaned, checked and recleaned the drain screw and the opening it goes into. I'm pretty sure it is the drain and not the overflow. I took the bowl off, set it on a flat surface, put gas in the bowl, and every last drop drained out. That seems to me it is the drain. This was not a problem before and all I did was remove the screw and replace the o ring during the rebuild.

Those bowls are made of soft metal; check with a magnifying glass to see if it cracked in the thread area, might have been over tightened at some time. Could try wrapping the screw threads with a single layer of teflon sealing tape and see if that stops it. Temporarily - if that's the problem, teflon tape isn't a permanent fix for gasoline. Then you'd want to get gas resistant tread sealer; I think Permatex makes some.

Check for cracked inlet elbow. Mine cracked and has came out and it wasn't easy to see it was seeping from there. It will run all around the bowl. To change the gasket and accelerator pump gasket and diaphragm is cheap and easy. If your inlet is cracked you have to pull the carb off to replace it

Thanks all for the advice and direction!
I think that the threads in the bowl drain is damaged and not allowing it to fully close.
I have pursued your suggestions.
I have ordered a Boysen Twinshot aftermarket bowl. I'll update when I get it on and if it does all that it has promised as well.
I figured what the hell...if I'm replacing I might as well upgrade!
