I am in the middle of this conversion. Do you know if these holes are just plugged off? Mikuni carb and intake manifold. back sensor is I believe the cyl. temp sensor. I am going to run a Mikuni HSR42.

I am in the middle or near the end of this conversion on my 2000 ultra classic. All is hooked up except for the green wire on the Thunder Heart Ignition module. Paperwork says it goes to tach. Tech at Thunder says: " the HD tachometer should have a Pink wire for the tachometer input, Pin #3 in the Delphi connector. This is where the ignition green wire should connect." Of course no diagram or treasure map etc. (gotta love that). So I stuck the email to my head and still no vibes. Got any clue, without taking off the front fairing where the pink wire is? Earlier in this thread it kinda sounded like the tach wire was not even necessary. Thanks for any help. Need to get 'er back on the road.

Per the service manual, the pink wire you are looking for should be the pink wire 5th from the top at the ECM wiring harness connector behind the right hand frame cover. The service manual notes that this pink wire is not terminated, but taped into the harness behind the fairing. I did a S&S carb conversion on my 2000 FLHTCU I a couple years ago, but used a Daytona Twin Tec TC88 Plug-In Ignition Module that was plug and play. Hope this helps!

I'm curious... did you leave the fuel pump in the gas tank or did you remove it? I can't seem to find any info of whether or not this is a good thing.

I removed everything from the fuel tank canopy I didn't need: hoses, the fuel pump and filter, but I left the fuel filter bracket housing and sending unit intact so my fuel gauge would work. A quick look at Ronnie's Harley Davidson parts microfiche for your ride will give a good idea of what can go away. Be sure to use a new cork gasket and sealing screws. (Don't ask me how I know!)

Thank you for the info, especially the Ronnie's connection. I have never understood how electricity can be sent inside of a fuel tank and run the fuel pump, sending unit, etc. I am assuming the wires just get clipped outside or left inside of the tank after the fuel pump extraction. Any thoughts on that part of it? Just ordered a new cork gasket and sealing screws.

I went carb because my ECM went bad. Kinda hard to find. I wanted to keep the option of going back to EFI if I found a reasonably priced ECM , so I left all the wiring intact and secured as needed with tie wraps. I've not had any problems running like this.

This is good stuff, I would have to think these injected bikes will get converted to carb as they get older, not unless there is affordable replacement prts
