Carb jets//
so my 01 fxdwg with Cv40 carb is running great.after a mess of work...etc...i am getting around town mileage about 35mpg....if i am on hwy..its about 32.5 give or take...what jet should i start with to explore for a bit better mileage? is it the 45/46..idle .or 185/190? i would like to shoot for 40mpg..i can live with that...thanks..

the jet if excessive and causing issues, yep but if the plugs look fine and she runs without issues, nope.
fuel mile-age is more ride style and gearing.
for grins and giggles, my sport runs 45 pilot and 200 main and i can milk near 60 mpg or twist it up to low 30 mpg. i avg mid 40's and i run international gearing.
want mile-age, drop a wood block on top of the carb slide.

Getting carbs running right can be a bit like messing with the dark arts! I've been riding over 50 years and have tinkered with them over the years, but a dyno tune on my current carb Glide has worked wonders. It's amazing what an expert can achieve! So don't over-look the possibilty of using a local tuning shop.
