I have a 1340 on 88 Softail FXSTC with a new super E carb i got the pilot jet 231 main at 70. I'm trying adjust the snap of throttle it fall on it face or back fires. It idles fine I turn the pilot in it stumbles then turn it back out it stumbles so i have it adjusted in the middle . Then I try adjusting accelerator screw for snapping of throttle it won't do it , just backfires , any help woukd be appreciated. Is my jetting ok or am off on my jets?

I would check for air leaks and the condition of the plugs before changing anything else. A fresh set of plugs will tell you alot providing you can take it for a ride.

S & S has a tuning guide on their website. You can also find a tuning guide at Nightrider.com.

On a stock 1340, .028 intermediate .070 main with the Idle mixture screw at 1 1/2 turns out from lightly seated and the accelerator pump at 2 turns out from bottom. Make sure your idle is around 950 with the proper idle mixture screw setting... That should be very close to what that motor needs..... Timing could also affect idle and acceleration...

I had similar problems with my sportster when it had an S&S carb. It ended up being due to electrical problems.

I was having problems with my 883 sportster and a S&S Super E. It turned out that I had an air leak between the intake and the heads. I replaced a set of black seals with the blue ones pictured. It made all the difference.
Before changing the seals the bike would carb fart and "hunt" when traveling at a steady speed.
