Should I rejet or leave it alone?
Hey everyone, I’ve got 02 sportster 1200c that I bought last summer. The guy I bought it from had installed the big sucker air intake and Vance and Hines dual pipes just before selling it. He never rejetted the carb and since I bought it I’ve put almost 4K miles on it without a rejet kit. I had a small problem of it not staying running at low idle, but changing the plugs seemed to fix that. Should I still invest the money into a rejet kit or leave it as is since it seems to be running fine? Thanks.

these were jetted lean from the moco. before you do anything, you must know what is in there.
perform the idle mix test with the installed pilot and if the engine operates with the pilot, good to go. a common pilot step up was a 45.
to check main, new plugs, open highway and do a throttle chop and check plugs. a size up probably will not hurt a thing.
if the engine transitions good, leave the needle alone, if not then try one step on the needle clip at a time to tune in, might have to go both ways, you can add washers under the clip for more fuel but a needle change will be needed to cut fuel (cheapest way)
i run a 45 pilot and a 200 main but i am modified.

Plug chops need to be performed in a proper fashion and are still not reliable with modern blended fuel.
45 slow jet, 1.5-2.5 turns out on the idle mix screw and a 170 main jet is a great place to start ifnyou do not want to buy a jet kit. The factory pro or ghe dyno jet brand kits are the best, and that is where you get your adjustable fuel needle from.
to save yourself money, just take it in and get it dyno tuned and be done.
