Default S&s super b carb

All right guys and gals, on my 87 flhs I have a s&s super b carb. Previous owner bought it from an older gent that said he had a dealer install a different cam and big bore. To me it doesnt run right. I need to have the idle up around 1200 and have the idle mixture set pretty rich to have a decent throttle response. I understand that there isnt an accelerator pump, and that the intermediate jet is a little small, but is it worth pulling it off and getting a s&s super e carb or just rejet the b and hope for the best. Right now it has a .275 intermediate And a .74 main jet. I should not that I did also install some rineheart slip ons, they came off a Yamaha but used a 1 7/8" id x 2" od to attach them.

I'd start with a .031 pilot and a 68 main.
Air/idle screw should be at/near 1 1/2 turns, and idle should land at about 1000 rpms.
The B was originally designed as a drag racing carb, and yes, a Super E, would a world of goodness.

You can improve a Super B by installing a Thunderjet. Essentially you get a three step jet system to meet demand versus two. I ran one for years and it was a great carb with the TJ installed. Before that is was hard to get just right. That said, the E is what I went too (also with factory installed TJ). I like it better. I would recommend the E.

Ok sounds good I will try that. I just need it to get me by for 2 seasons, plan on putting a 124" s&s and a Baker od6 in it, so trying to get by without spending too much on it lol

With that am I drilling into the carb to install? I have never played with a thunder net yet.

It's not that simple to just drill a carb for a T-jet. It has to be at the right angle to the venturi to work affectively. I would start with a .0295" intermediate jet before I did anything else. I've never heard of a .0275 in an 80'er and worked well let alone a big bore kit... I would find out what cubes it is and go from there.....

Nothing wrong with the Suber B carb. I ran one on my Shovelhead for almost 30 years. You can buy a replacement fuel bowl called a SuperBowl which incorporates an accelerater pump. Then you'd have the benefit of the Super E along with the long throat of the Super B drag model. But if you do switch to the E remember that the backing plate and ac cover from the B won't work on it.
