Default Carb setup guidance needed.....

Been going through my late uncle's 2000 Wide Glide from top to bottom since October of last year. Only things left to do is get the carb situated and do the fall away.

Bike: 2000 Wide Glide, 26k miles. Bike had drag pipes, stock cam and Kuryakyn HyperCharger. Pulled that crap off and added SE203 cams (changed tensioners while in there), V&H 2-1 Pro Pipe, and S&S Stealth air cleaner.

My question is, what should be the starting point for the carb, jetting wise? 45 or 48? I have both, as I watched a video on youtube that said when on stage 1 you should bump the jet up 1 size, so I bought a 48. It also said to shim the needle, so I have some small ss washers on hand as well.

I just dont want to be running too lean, as I dont want to damage the engine, but hate running too rich and wasting gas/performance.

I should note, Im not trying to make this bike a screamer. I want it to be a fun reliable bike.

Thanks for any help!

Shims are a poor fix as you need a different needle like this - tried and true for years - https://www.ebay.com/itm/HARLEY-GENU...53.m1438.l2649

If Dynatek has an ICU replacement I'd do that too - their suggested starting advance curve is usually spot on.

That stock needle IS the one I have. The "shims" (washers) go under it. Are you saying no shims/washers are needed?

Also, not sure what an ICU is. I googled Dynatek ICU and nothing really of value came up.

48 slow, 2 shims under the stock needle. Don’t drill the slide hole. 190 main to start. Just my opinion after many years of tuning.

Describe how it’s running. I’m guessing you have something else going on. Check all the basics— compression test, intake leaks, enrichner operation, electrical connections. Did you get the cam timing right? Is the needle jet installed correctly?

Compression is good. Enriched works as it should. All electrical connections are clean and connected (I've gone over every bolt and connector on this bike from top to bottom, as it came from a sandy area and sand was everywhere). Cam timing is spot on. I took my time and was very meticulous with it.

I will check for vacuum leaks. What is the best spray to use for this?

Can I upload/attach a video clip directly to this forum?

Thanks guys!
