Default S&S Evo K&N air filter number?

I suspect that the K&N air filter in my bike is the wrong one. Plus it is very dirty. The bike in question is a 1990 FLTC with the 1340 EVO running an S&S Shorty carb and air cleaner. The air cleaner housing is teardrop shaped and has S&S 387 stamped inside, S&S SUPER embossed on the outside. The filter that I pulled out of it says K&N A060A6 on the one side and K&N A060B6 on the other. It looks like it has been crushed a little, like it was too thick for the housing, and when I was looking up part numbers, I was coming up with something totally different. Can anyone help me figure out what filter is SUPPOSED to be in there? I would really appreciate the help. Thanks.

S&S has a dedicated element, manufactured by Wix, for their air cleaner assemblys.
We have 'em on the shelf.

D1gger...I have an 89 FXSTC 1340 evo with the same set up and my filter and tear drop cover has the same exact markings as yours...I have no issues with crushing. I installed the carb on the bike in 1990. wish i could help more. But, it sounds like you have the correct set up.

Yea I noticed that the one in photo was "D" shaped but if you read at the bottom of the page it says "The one pictured is NOT the one that would be shipped. When you install that s&s element, it has to be centered just perfect with the word TOP facing out. Then when you tighten screws tighten each screw a little at a time till the screw bottoms out...if somebody else had your bike before you at one time they probably didn't have the element centered. That would tend to "crush" it. When you do get a new element make sure you get a washable/reusable one...then spray a light even coat of air cleaner oil over the outside of element...I've had mine for 20 years and looks looks brand new.

D1gger, get in touch with your local S&S dealer, or contact Scott direct via his details above. Stop faffing around and get the right thing! You don't want a K&N filter, you want an S&S filter and you have all the information you need now!
