Just got a new project 1973 SS 250
 

My buddy just found this bike in his uncle's garage, his uncle say's that it's a 1973 SS250.

It looks like it needs some work, but is in overall good condition and wants to get it running tip top. But does anyone have any information on this machine? (google has failed me)

I'd kinda like to know what it's worth and if my buddy is getting me into a nightmare of a rebuild ;) (not that has ever stopped me before...)

Any bit of information i can get on this bike would be awesome.

I may be wrong, but I think that's a 1974 Sprint 350ss. It also came as a sx version with high fenders and high exhaust. (yeah right, like you'd want to off road on one of those heavy beasts).

My brother had one. It never would run right. Dealership kept saying it was running perfect, but my dad, brother, and even I (at 14 or so) knew it wasn't right. I had a SX175 that would outrun it for about 3 blocks.

I have a SS250 in my profile photos. As you can see, the motor is very different. It's a '76 version. I had a '74 SX175 dual-sport and there was a SS version of it and the 250 then too. But not with that huge cylinder hanging out the front.

A friend and I were talking the other day and he made a similar comment about the 'huge cylinders' on my twin cam. The cylinders themselves are actually quite small in size. People often mistakenly refer the rocker box, head and cylinder assembly all together as 'the cylinder(s)' when speaking of how big they look. The dimensions from the head gasket surface to the top of the rocker box pretty much doubles the entire assembly making it look like they are huge. Just sayin...

Well whatever the hell it is, it's too damn big to be hanging off the front like that. :D
