Default Insurance for custom bike?

How hard is it to get insurance for a custom built bike? Some day I would like to build my own custom, but want to know how hard it is to tag and insure it.

Thanks

Jeff

I'm checking into it for you JeffD. I've never written coverage for a custom before but I'm sure it can be done. I'll get back to you.

This would be good information. I currently have liability through Progressive but I need to upgrade now the bike is worth something.

Thud, what did you start out with for a frame? I was looking at rolling chassis' on ebay and it looks like some really good deals can be found on there.

My thread is https://www.hdforums.com/m_150004/mp.../tm.htm#150004

My gallery is https://www.hdforums.com/albumphoto....Type=1&apage=1

I started with a DNA 250 Pro-Street frame from American Made Online (local to San Diego)

There are a lot of good frames out there now days. I found these guys on Ebay too but since
American Made was in San Diego area, it was a local pickup for me.

This is what I am considering if I take on this project.

I just bought my rotors and rear pulley from American Made off of ebay, and they were a great company to deal with.

BTW how much different is the mounting of a Shovelhead vs. a Evo motor. I'd like to do something different then a Evo or Twin cam.

Talk to Tim at American Made. That looks like a DNA frame with a springer front end. I know you can mount a Twin Cam A on the frame with an adapter. An Evo and Shovel will work, but talk to Tim to make sure of what you need for the primary pieces.

Here is the bike that I want to somewhat duplicate. It is in the new edition of IronWorks magazine. Love the lines of this bike. It looks like a DNA frame also, and it does have a DNA springer front.

Easyriders magazine had an article on it a year or two back....the short version: it is a royal pain in the ***.
