Default Sportster Softail Chassis?

I have a 2007 Sportster 1200XL that I realize is not a comfortable ride for anything but the short jaunt. I was looking at a Softail Slim maybe next year but it was suggested I could I could get a Softail Chassis for my Sportster. Has anyone done this? Pros? Cons?

If you look at what used bikes are selling for these days, you could sell your 07 sportster and get a big twin that is slightly older than it and not end up in bad shape financially without all the hassles.
