battery losing Volts, melted pos terminal, no short

Default battery losing Volts, melted pos terminal, no short

07 street bob - so bike wont start turns out pos battery is melted, new battery goes in, went for a ryde, no blown fuses, battery died during the ryde. neg cable looks like its a little warm. tryed to find a short from pos to ground with my meter cant find one. any help? starter relay or charging system problems?

I'd say take a good long look at the Voltage Regulator.

Charging system problems most likely.

Bad connection wil melt a battery terminal. Hot earth lead can also indicate connection problems. Disconect earth and pos cables. Clean up the contact faces with some wire wool and bolt back togetber.

If the terminal is melted I don't think he should be bolting it back together, that's a recipe for future problems. Replace the battery.

This must be amateur hour...the guy in the video has his meter leads reversed.

The correct connection to the circuit should show the black negative lead on the battery and the red positive lead on the cable...current flows from negative to positive. This is why his current reading is negative instead of positive...no big deal with a digital meter, but do this with an analog meter and it will fry it or blow up in your face.
