I know weird right? I don't know what it is, the brakes work fine. When I press on the front brake it sounds like a cicada chirping. I may just change the pads, what else could it be?
Swish swish swish. Yep my 2002 wide glide does it too.well mine does it when it's freewheeling and not when brake is depressed. Brakes look good, rotor is fair. I decided to just ignore it until winter when I have more time to tinker and less time to ride.
You on the other hand may need some pads. Sounds like metal on metal chirping. Did u take a peak and see how much if any pad is left?

I've heard lots of stories about newer, better, quiet pads. Anyone have any opinions on this? For less than 2 bucks I would give Izzy's tip a try. I've been thinking of doing it myself.

Yes my 14' fxdl, same, dealer said nature of the pad, only happens when I brake, would assume after market pads would fix issues...
Mine only make the smallest swish swish and squeek on occasion when lightly braking. I figure it just the pads. I also ride stretches of gravel nearly every day.
I'm gonna say its the pads. you might also try to see if blowing brake dust and etc. out of the caliper and pad area helps.
My opinion is it's the rotors. They are cross drilled and when the pads pressurize and goes over the hole, it makes the noise. I bet solid rotors wouldn't do it.
