03 Dyna won't start

03 Dyna won't start. Press the start button and it clunks really loud. I have a new battery and just installed a new starter and then a starter relay. Still just clunks. It has been happening for awhile but I would get it to start eventually. Checked the ground wire and its installed right and I even replaced the fuse just tobe safe. I have no idea where to go now. Any ideas?

my 03 Dyna carburetor have the idle jet rattle loose and the bike would not start because of that not saying that is your problem but it is a possibility just open the float bowls and see if the idle jet fell out if it did put it back in reinstall carburetor and use starting fluid to get bike back on

The bike was running fine until the clunk started. The clunk is coming from the starter, you can feel the solenoid clunking..

Starter clutch? Works with the starter solenoid.

Rebuild or replace the starter. Check the solenoid while you're at it/

It's the contacts inside the solenoid. The parts are cheap and it is an easy fix if you are good at repairing things.
Take the little cover off of the back of the solenoid, pull the plunger out and check the contacts inside there and on The plunger. Sometimes you can just flip the disc on the plunger over to get a new surface.

Since it was a brand new just in d the stalled today starter I pulled the primary case off to verify the installation of everything. The case was a little difficult to get off this time and the pinion gear was cocked. Pulled it apart down to the spring and re-seated everything. Put it back together and it has started up 5 times in a row now with no problems.

2003 Clutch question

Ever since I got my 03 SG the starter will spin when I hit the button no matter the gear it's in. Is there a neutral safety switch? Never even thought about it. I just don't hit it in gear. Thanks.

I guess I should have paid more attention to the new starter comment.
The contact problem is common on heavily used starters but not new ones.

Something to keep in mind when having slow crank or no crank issues, it is almost never the fault of the starter motor itself.

Some simple troubleshooting with a cheap digital multimeter will usually reveal an electrical issue causing the problem, bad battery, electrical contact, solenoid contact, switch, relay etc.

In this case is looks like it was a misalignment, but the original starter was probably replaced when it could have been repaired for a few bucks.
