She just got a bath to remove the deicer and gravel dirt that the state and County put down on the roads for ice. The sodium chloride deicer is very corrosive. Rust steels and puts black spots on shiny aluminum. Remove the black spots and there is white spots under them that need to be polished out.

Whats the point of fork boots on a street ridden bike? IMO they look terrible and just trap dirt next to your seals.

It's Old Skool, and if quality items, no dirt will ever get near the seals. That was their original purpose, to keep dirt off the forks and seals. Ask Triumph, BMW, AJS, BSA, MotoGuzzi, etc, etc.......

I know what their original purpose is, and why do you think the use of them on bike fresh out of the factory is pretty slim in today's world? I've seen lots that have vent holes, and if they dont they do suck in dirt/dust from gaps in the ends as the forks move and the boot expands and contracts. And then since there is no easy exit its all trapped. Why do you think motorcross bikes are now coming with plastic shields rather than boots?

Since you are probably at least half my age, there's no reason to go any further to discuss the history of motorcycles, other than to say it's about the look of the past, today.
Today's fork seals laugh at dirt and grime. Make your bike look how ever you like, but since I had a bunch of bikes that looked like that many many decades ago, long before you ever entered this earth, much less rode a motorcycle. I do appreciate the look he presented. Please show some pics of yours bike we can critique it. No offence, meant, just see the past in the present and appreciate it..... Have a great week, sir. tp

It's a free country...either you love them or hate them. I love them on MY BIKE, if I had a different bike, maybe I'd feel different. Yes I installed them for looks...not to go off-roading. They are real easy to get behind and clean. So I'm not worried about dirt accumulating behind them. But hey, to each his own!
