Default $880 for 10" West Coast T-bar installation?

Hey guys,

Just bought these 10" West Coast T-bars from Riverside Harley and plan on getting them installed this Friday morning along with my 5K service. They quoted me at $880 for the installation fee according to the amount of work that goes into undoing the wiring and concealing them it into the bars.

Does this sound like a fair price/quote for a job like this?
I'm referring specifically to those who have had West Coast T-bars, like this, installed on their Dyna... How much did it run you?

THANKS!

Also,

I'm wondering if 10" West Coast T-bars will feel too low for me....

I know my current stock "mini-apes" measure at about 12 inches....

Anybody else have any opinions?

I have 14" T-bars on my Dyna, I'm 6'3" and they are just the right height for me. (hands about 3" below shoulder)

I installed my own bars, but $800 is about what I would expect a shop to charge, there's a lot of tedious, time consuming work to changing them out.

If you aren't savvy w/wiring & splicing + don't have lots of time/patience...let the dealer do your bar swap/wiring. For those, if it's all inclusive (bars, cables, wiring, labor, etc.) then $880's probably in the park. If it's $880 for install only (you supplied bars) then they're taking you a bit on the high side...IMO...negotiate as you're supplying one of the most $pendy components. Wiring those bars isn't that hard (e.g. one 90-degree bend)...touring bikes have three bends to work = major pain in a$$.

Is that including new cables, brake lines etc?

Either way it seems a bit high. It's not rocket science and it's not even really warranty destroying work, so if you can't DIY, I'd buy the parts online more cheaply (not H-D retail), then take it to an independent who might not even earn $500 in a whole day and would be more grateful for the work.

They may have a fixed hourly rate, but that's not critical head mechanic work.

Unless, of course, your super busy and well paid exec yourself and bill out your time at several times your local H-D franchise.

Support your local independent (as long as he's not an *******).

I forgot to specify:
I bought the bars from Riverside Harley - Parts & Accessories - and the service department quoted me at $880 for just the installation of the 10" west coast T-bars USING my stock cables. That price quote isn't including the $350 5K service.

Not gonna lie, it seems a bit outrageous to me that putting on new handlebars costs 4 times the amount of the bars themselves!

Just got off the phone with some other Harley Dealerships, and even some independents, and they're all saying that price quote is about right.

When I purchased my Wide Glide, I wanted Fat Bob bars. They sold me the bars at cost and charged one hours labor. Wiring is internal.

8 hours at $110 an hour? I'd do it myself in 3 hours. You don't need new cables with 10" bars. That is some serious gouging that I would never pay for some dealer mechanic to do. Ripoff! Run!

However that is a typical quote from a dealer. Find a good indy and pay less than half that.
