Default Chipping Gas tank tabs

Just had a Custom Paint done on my FXDC want to try to avoid the front tank tabs from chipping from the bolt... Any suggestions on how to avoid this from happening.... I noticed the stock paint was chipping around the bolt when I removed it....
Thanks

Ask your painter. He'll probably have an idea or two. If he doesn't then there's a little thing that's been around for many years now and it's called rubber. Cut a little gasket out and put it between the bolt and the tank on both sides. If you're unable to find rubber there are numerous artificial choices that you can make.

so, the rubber is a bad choice because you want a solid connection...not something that can flex

go to your local hardware store, buy a couple urethane washers, and be done with it.

Mylar washers worked well when I had the belt guard on my sporty painted. They are really thin yet prevent the contact area from getting scratched up.
