Dyna fork clunk
 

I get front fork 'clunk' off-and-on when braking. I've seen quite a few references to this issue. I've been told this is 'normal' for Dyna front ends, or at least not a concern.

Any comments?

I had this clunk when my 2007 FXDC Super Glide Custom was new. I had the dealer tighten up the stem bearings and check that the fall-away was correct. Still had the clunk. I wrecked my bike totaling the front fork at 20,000 miles. When I got the bike repaired by Harley, I still had the clunk. I have happily put 36,000 trouble free miles on my bike with the clunk. At first it was annoying. Then like your wife or girlfriend's annoying habits, you learn to live with them to get the good stuff.

Has any of you checked the sag in the forks.
If you are not familiar with adjusting the sag, do a search for adjusting the sag on forks. Dirt bike riders know all about it.

My brand new street bob with 300 miles clunks. I usually only hear it when i pull in the garage. I've got to go to the stealership tomorrow to pick up my title. Ill see what they have to say about it.

Yes, the clunk is intermittent. It usually clunks when going over something that compresses the forks a lot - like railroad tracks, too fast on a speed bump, or even very hard braking.

haha yeah and maybe the blinker fluid needs to be topped off.

i think its when the forks de-compress & what ever stops them from coming apart clunks, I get it on hard bumps.

Is the lower tree on the forks being loosened prior to re-torque of the stem nut. Doing this takes out the miniscule amount of play in the bearings as they are being "tightened" but I'm sure the Harley techs already know this. Just like they've been known to let a bike out of service with no oil in the primary. My clunk went away doing this method. Of course tighten the lower forks when you are done.
