shifting issues

1996 fxd 80ci 5spd
Hard downshift and hard to get into neutral.
Fluid needs change but level is good.
Is there any advice/direction you can give that will help in the correction process?

Start with the simple first. Adjust the primary chain tension, adjust the clutch and clutch cable freeplay and replace the fluid. Typically the number 1 reason for trouble finding neutral is clutch drag, start by being certain your primary chain, clutch and cable are in spec and see if you continue to have issues...

Thank you for the direction

Quit shifting issues and focus on one issue at a time ;)

Good advice from tincup

I would do the service manual clutch adjustment, the one where the derby cover comes off. Then I'd swap tranny and primary fluid and ensure correct capacities go in.

I adjusted primary chain to spec...adjusted clutch to spec...adjusted clutch cable to spec...refilled primary case with hd trany and primary lube to spec...
the results are the same...hard to down shift and hard to shift into neutral.
which direction do I take now?
