Im curious as to how 1st gear is? i have a 70t rear but if i do the 30t front will 1st be terribly shorter? Right now i do all my wheelies in first and sometimes hit rev limiter sooner then i like (mainly stock bike) so i run out of steam, or would i be able to clutch it up in second with ratio change?

Alright, I'm convinced.

I think I'll start with the 30t pulley. If I can find a stock 68t or 70t rear pulley cheap enough I might do that at the same time. I've found stock black ones, but I have a silver and would prefer to stay with that.

I considered the Evolution 49t clutch basket, but that's just out of my price range.

I read HD Pilots excellent thread so I know about the MF'ing nut. I'll have a new one ready to go.

I'm assuming I'll be able to reprogram the speedo with the Thundermax, but I haven't really looked into it yet.

According to the gearing chart on the Andrews website, with a 30/70 you'll be running 5650 RPM at 40 mph, where with a 32/70 you're about 5330 RPM at 40mph. Not sure if that answers your question...

In the TMCC there's a speedo calculater. A couple of different ways to use it but I found the most accurate was to use actual vs. indicated speed. To get the actual speed you can use a GPS. I don't have one so I used one of the radar type speed limit signs around here.

Yup it's real easy. That's the way I did it too. Hardest past is to get the GPS stuck to your bike....after that it's simple.

Just have to ask. Is this pulley swapping mainly for baggers? or does it do well on lighter bikes as well? I have Andrews 48h cams with other upgrades on my Softail (96 engine). It is as fast as I need it to be for now. But what would I gain with the change in gear ratio? Faster off the line? More roll on power? What are the trade-offs or downside if any?

You say you have a 70 rear and you're thinking of 30 front....so do you have a 32 in the front now? That's a 4 tooth jump, which needs a new belt.

You can only jump +/- 2 teeth w/ stock belt.
