Default Started removing my intake manifold

I am waiting on the special tool for the intake manifold bolts. Long story short I am chasing an intake leak because the shop that put my new heads on used 00-05 manifold flanges instead of the right ones. Oh well.

Now for the questions.

1. Any tips for removal and installation past this point?

2. Should I remove the top motor mount?

3. Have any of you changed out the flange Allen head bolts to hex heads and if so I am assuming stainless wouldn't be the best thing to use in aluminum

4. Of course I got new seals and I heard to grease them up before installation to prevent binding

This wild go a lot faster if I wasn't leaving town next week for a couple of day so bear with me and I will post updates along the way. Here is where I am at now besides my seized throttle cable.

In the HD Parts Manual there is a part number for a throttle body kit that has a lot of wear items that are good to replace, I used it on my engine build and if I remember right, it ws not very expensive at all.

I had that special HD tool and it was kinda nice when loosening the intake fasteners but probably not that necessary. Just need some Allen wrenches, need one about 6" long and "ball" ended - need to make sure you have solid contact when torqing. If you can get the straight ended Allen in there - safer on the fastener head.

I found the ones on the left side of bike to be very difficult, yeah basically remove engine mount, Horn, etc

Think people have changed them to those 12pt screws/bolts, you want the smallest possible socket in there otherwise it hits the manifold

Did you have high idling? It doesnt drop back to set idle?

Sometimes those clamps, gaskets can be put on the wrong way around, use a little bit of grease or vaseline but torque them down evenly, little bit at a time

^ yup, high idle and a tick which also might be related. My manifold is obviously pulled to one side and the bolts are halfway off the outside of the open end of the flange. Like I said the wrong flanges are on there which leads to the manifold being pushed out toward the cam side of the bike. I noticed that when it back my air cleaner was spaced outward with shims and I thought it was weird that I never had to do that before. Which lead to me asking questions and they said that I had used 00-05 heads (which they weren't) which necessitated the 00-05 flanges which are incorrect.

I made my own "special tools" just modded a couple of 1/4" Allen keys.
One I cut the short end shorter and on the other I bent the ball end at 90 degrees

They work great. Fiddly job but not that bad
