Throttle won't snap back....help!

Having a bit of trouble here....

Just replaced my bars and I cannot get the throttle to snap back? The cable is fine, snaps back perfect if I tug on it. Once I put the grip back on I cannot get it to work. Didn't have this problem when I changed out handlebars before? You guys think it could be the grip?....they are only a little over a year old - HD Get a Grip - grips. I did notice that it doesn't spin freely on the handlebars? Put it back on the old set and it's about the same amount of friction. Anyways, any tips are greatly appreciated. I went from 14" Apes to 8" Tbars, if it makes a difference. Stock cables.

Thanks

Maybe the end of the grip is hitting against the end of the bar. Move it out a little. Also check the star friction screw, the shoe in it could be binding.

I tried moving it out a bit and still getting stuck. This friction screw you mention, does it go up through the bottom of the control clamps? If so, there is not one there...just a hole. Maybe it rattled out at some point?

I just had the same issue. I went from Todd's 10" strip bars to 12 inch west coast tbars slingshots, and my three month old HD nostalgia grips kept binding up once I closed up the switch housing. I slipped the stock grips on, and the issue went away. The stockers work good, but I'm pissed that my nostalgia grips didn't work. I don't think it has to do with the overall rise of these new bars. With the apes and risers, my old setup actually stretched the cables out more than my new tbars. I'm thinking about going with some billet PM grips.

It shouldn't vibrate out, but if it's gone the other piece may be stuck in the housing. I'm assuming you already checked the throttle cables and made sure the flap in the throttle body is moving freely.

Make sure the friction spring is not adjusted too tight.

It can be see here as #12. It's adjusted with #14. I had a similar issue.

Not sure what bars you're running but I put WO's on both my FLH's and the bars were ever so slightly larger than the stock bars i took off. Ended up sanding out the throttle grip on both to get my spring return back.

Cable and flap on the throttle body are working fine, as far as that spring and screw, I don't remember ever seeing that...lol. I bought the bike new and swapped handlebars twice. I attached a pic of the inside of the housing. I may pick up a set of grips tomorrow, and if that doesn't work, I'll sand out the throttle side. Bars are 1 1/4 in, but taper down to 1 in at the ends. The pair of apes I took off were the same.

Sand the bars and spray a little graphite lube in there. Buying new grips should be an absolute last resort.

So the grip by it's self won't spin easily on the bars? Sand the powder off the bars and try again.
