Default New fork springs

My fork seals are leaking on my 2001 dyna low rider. This might be a good time to replace the springs.

So which springs should I get for a very smooth comfortable ride Good for distant riding.

Comfort? Probably stick with stock. Most spring for increased rate to improve handling/reduce dive, which *generally* means a less cushy ride.

The Progressive springs are a good bang for the buck upgrade and outperform the stock springs. Unless you're large/heavy, ride 2 up quite a bit, or are an aggressive corner carver stick with the standard duty Progressive springs, the heavy duty springs do stiffen things up.

I would try to find a suspension shop and have them work on the dampening.

Harley front ends are over dampened which leads to a nice ride on perfect roads but harshness when even small bumps show up.

Since the forks are dampening rod type they rely on oil moving back and forth through holes (compression and dampening). The holes, at least the compression orifice, are too small in Harleys.

If you can have someone pull the dampening rods out (I think both legs have them) and drill out the compression oil orifice to the right size you will get much better ride for little money. Of course they need to have a suspension dyno but any decent shop will.

I guess what I'm trying too say is that without changing the dampening you may never get that smooth ride. Getting the right dampening orifice size, oil weight, and springs are key to a good ride. Of course going to a cartridge or emulator setup would be nice too but the cost will be greater.

Just did mine with Progressive springs, for the $100 bucks or so I'm stoked.

The Progressive springs are a decent upgrade, determine the part number of the springs for your year and check Amazon and eBay, you can typically find them at a reduced price; I've got a set of standards and heavy springs for my '13 I picked up on Amazon for $70 each.

When you install them follow Progressive's recommendations on spacer length, fluid weight, and fluid level, don't use the SM for those numbers. The Progressive springs are longer and have thicker coils...
