Default '02 vs. '06 Dyna WGs

Looking at a couple of WGs, a '02 and a '06, each under 4000 miles. I know it's 5 speed vs. 6 speed, carbed vs. FI. Anything on either of these years a guy should be wary about? TIA

This^^^

I also think the 02 is a better looking bike. That's a matter of taste of course, but I think the of earlier rear fender is much better looking than the 06 - 08 Wide Glide rear fender. The 06s were a bastard year, 88 motor with 6 speed tranny. Also, some of the 06s had inner primary bearing issues. I'd go with the 02 all day.

Owner of 2006 WG here, IPBs are an issue I've replaced 2 in 2 years. I didn't know **** about harleys when I bought it, but it's forced me to learn. Love the way she rides though.

The new 103 is calling my name though.

The 2006 may need an exorcism. From what I hear they are possessed with demons!

I have an 01 with 90K. Great bike. Timkin bearings, 5 speed carb bike runs strong and cool. Ride with a friend that has an 06. Blown 2nd gear. IPB twice. Top end at 60k. Both bikes have bad cam chain tensioners. I installed SE kit at 40K. No other issues.

Was it hard to fix when the IPB's broke? I bought my 2006 SB about a half a year ago and have not a put lot of miles on it yet. It currently has around 12,500 miles on it. The only problem I have had with it so far was a exhaust stud breaking when I tried to take off the pipes. I had to take off the head then have a machine shop fix the head. The previous owner installed a upgraded stator, not sure about the bearing.

I guess time will tell how good of a bike it is. It is fun to ride, especially the more I get used to it.

Thanks for the info, guys. I was leaning toward the '02 'cos I like carbs, but it's a CVO and they're asking $11K. Kinda steep to me, I'm just sitting back now and seeing if it sits for a while.

Whatever I get will be basically a bar hopper. I've got the trike for road work. The dyna might get 10K miles on it before I conk out, so high mileage issues don't really bother me, unless I find one cheap that already has the miles on it.

So many bikes, so little money...
