Thinking I need a 3rd bike...

Ever have two bikes that both have issues on the same day?

I think my 2007 Street Glide is in need of a new Throttle Position Sensor because of some stalling at idle issues that just surfaced (I cleaned the IAC sensor and it didn't fix it). I called the dealer and they had one is stock. I decided this was a perfect mission for my '06 FXDCI. I mounted up, turned the key, flipped the switch to the 'run' position and stated backing the bike out of the garage. Hit the start button and...lights out. Whaaat?!? Damn! This was the working bike I was going to take to the dealer to get parts for the other bike! I ended up taking the Street Glide to the dealer for its own replacement part.

After returning home, I hooked up a battery tender to the FXDCI and within a minute it showed full charge, which is a bad sign since I haven't ridden th FXDCI in at least a week. If it's not taking any charge after just being plugged it, then I probably have a dead 'Die Hard'.

Even though the Street Glide has a larger sized battery, I stuck the FXDCI battery in it to see if it would run. Fortunately the suspect battery acted the same in both bikes which was all of the proof I needed. I put the Street Glude back together and took my car :( to Auto Zone for a 2nd opinion on the battery. Their tester agreed my assumption. I bought an Auto Zone battery for $80. No point in getting another expensive Sears battery if they only last as long as a cheap Auto Zone 'Duralast'. It was a tighter than normal fit in the battery box which means four years from now I'm going to have a hell of a time getting it out, but I guess I'll deal with that when the time comes.

All of that and my TPS -- the part I originally left the couch to go get and install -- is still sitting quietly in my jacket pocket.

Time to buy a 3rd bike so that I can get parts for the other two when they both act up on the same day.

Sounds like a good problem to have.

Time to add a Sportster to the collection.

Don't get too many bikes, can be confusing when you can't remember which part goes to which bike...

And all those wheels to take care of...

And carbs...

And clutches...

And recharging air conditioning... wait... never mind, that's a cage...

But at least it gives you an excuse to hang out with the old guys and have a beer...

Grandson, 7 now. I hope I'll give him some skills and good memories of old grampa.
